Report Condemns Police Lab Oversight

Times article on Garry Veeder, a forensic scientist for the State of New York in the Trace Evidence Section, whose shoddy work (couldn't properly operate a microscope from what I'm reading) and fraudulent reports were overlooked by the state for 15 years. Veeder retired in 2003 and then promptly hung himself in his garage.

The State Police superintendent states that he is certain that there were no wrongful convictions, but defendants whose cases were handled by Veeder will be allowed to file appeals.
